This morning - 31st July 2026 - we were delighted to welcome the latest additions to the Sooriya family as another brood of tiny chicks emerged from their eggs.
Watching these fluffy little birds take their first tentative steps is a special reminder of the rich natural environment that surrounds us.
Our resident lapwings are well known to both our team and our regular guests. They wander confidently around the gardens and open spaces, completely at ease among staff and visitors. While they are wonderfully tolerant of people, they remain devoted and protective parents, always keeping a watchful eye on their chicks with their distinctive calls whenever they sense potential danger.

Their decision to return year after year is something we treasure. It reflects the peaceful surroundings and natural habitat that make Sooriya Resort & Spa a sanctuary not only for our guests, but also for the wildlife that shares this beautiful corner of Sri Lanka with us.
If you visit us over the coming weeks, you may be lucky enough to spot the newest members of our feathered family exploring the grounds under the careful guidance of their proud parents. We kindly ask everyone to admire them from a respectful distance so they can continue to thrive.
We look forward to welcoming many more generations of our cherished resident lapwings in the years to come.
